Editorial Illustration for Pennsylvania Gazette

I did this illustration of DC power broker Vinoda Basnayake for the Pennsylvania Gazette. It was such fun to figure out the right language to tell his story.

Art Direction: Cathy Gontarek

Editorial illustration for 51st news

For this FLYER inviting Ward 7 residents to an ice cream social, I wanted to capture the joy of a young child eating ice cream. Everything is big and exaggerated, eyes, mouth, even the cherry on top.

Art Director: Christina Sturdivant Sani

Cover illustration for HumanitiesDC Annual Report

For the cover of the HumanitiesDC annual report, I wanted to draw inspiration from their mantra: Curious Minds, Bold Questions, Powerful Stories. I focused on the many different people in DC, and the amazing stories they want to tell. This illustration used analog methods like gouache and watercolor painting, and collage in Photoshop.

Editorial illustration for Penn Gazette

Editorial illustration about cassette tapes for the Pennsylvania Gazette. To achieve this look, I worked with digital concepts and worked the final illustration using gouache and watercolor. I made final changes in Photoshop.

The money maze

This editorial illustration is about how Black women navigate their finances for The Lighthouse: Black Girl Project. I loved the idea of a maze to show how confusing saving, retirement planning, and general financial literacy can be.

Art Director: Sirita Render.

Bird watching

Inspired by the hit Netflix show The Residence, in which the lead character is an avid bird watcher, I wanted to pay homage to that with an illustration. This piece was created using Procreate.

Yes Chef!

This illustration was an homage to one of my favorite shows, The Bear. I wanted to capture the intimate relationship between the two main characters, Sydney and Carmy, but also the general populous phrase: Yes, Chef!

Communication is a sport

For this personal project, I wanted to explore the difference between what we think we are saying versus what we are communicating for the “Oh Fuck! You’re an Artist” newsletter.

Summer spot illustrations

Let’s face it, it’s been super hot this season (thanks, climate change). And I wanted to create a series of spot illustrations that showcase how you can beat the heat. Whether that be going to the library, watching a movie, or having a dance party, there are several options to make it work in the sun.

Paris Olympics spot illustrations

This collection of spot illustrations focuses on the 2024 Paris Olympics. I wanted to have fun with gouache paints and easy color palettes.

Actor portraits

I love pop culture. And I love a great performance by an actor or actress in film, TV, or theater. I decided to paint some of my favorite thespians. I used gouache paint and a bit of collage to create the works.

Summer reads

Who doesn’t love a good book. I created this editorial illustration to show how reading can teleport you to so many places, even while you are on summer vacation.

Dealing with emotional overwhelm

Sometimes you can get overwhelmed in life. And your emotions can go all over the place. I wanted to convey hope through this illustration during a time in everyone’s life.

Bring on the fun

In this illustration, I wanted to show how adults need to have fun too. It was mostly done digitally with Procreate, but all my ideas come from my sketchbook for the most part.

The birds are vanishing

This editorial Illustration, created digitally, highlights the alarming fact that 75% of birds in North America are disappearing.

Isolation in a crowd

This conceptual illustration conveys what loneliness and isolation feel like, even in a home full of people.

Public restroom etiquette

This editorial illustration is all about that very sensitive subject of public restroom etiquette. We all gotta go. But how do we go to a place where everyone else has to go as well? This was created digitally with Procreate.
